Wayne Dawkins

WAYNE DAWKINS has over 20 years of work experience in the field of carpentry and construction. He started to lose his sight while working on a construction site in 2013 and his condition has progressed to the extent that he now requires the assistance and support of a guide dog.  Since that initial upheaval,  Mr. Dawkins’ life story follows a fascinating path as he was able to overcome seemingly impossible challenges to become a sculptor and positive role model to all.

Driven by his passion to guide and teach, Mr Dawkins sought to share his vast scope of practical and technical knowledge to students enrolled in carpentry and building construction vocational classes. Developing sculpting as a creative outlet, Mr Dawkins soon accumulated an impressive array of projects.  He  utilizes his artwork during individual and group mentoring sessions in other educational settings.  In 2019, Mr. Dawkins began  mentoring at-risk youths on probation in a Juvenile Justice Program through AmeriCorps. To date, Wayne Dawkins has received five (5) certifications from NCCER (National Center for Construction Education and Research) in the following areas:

  • NCCER Craft Instructor – Carpentry & CORE
  • Curriculum Proctor
  • Curriculum Performance Evaluator for Carpentry & CORE

“Mr. Wayne is a role model who inspires AMI Construction Crew to see beyond, learn that anything is possible which motivates students to change their lives.” – Pamela Mendoza, Miami-Dade AMIKIDS Building Construction Teacher

NCCER is recognized by the construction industry as the training, assessment, certification and career development standard for the construction and maintenance craft professional. To learn more, visit www.nccer.org.

The COVID-19 Pandemic has seriously impacted on how we can deliver our services for the foreseeable future. Adherence with guidance on social distancing means we are unable to perform the majority of our face-to-face activities, and so we have adapted to remote delivery of some services. These are indicated on our website. JAH RISE has however maintained a focus on our clients’ most essential needs, and the nature of some of our community services reflects this. Where face-to-face interaction is necessary our representatives and volunteers will adhere to the strictest measures of social distancing and wear personal protective equipment both for their safety and the safety of the clients we serve.
